Join leaders of For Members Only (FMO), Northwestern’s Black Student Alliance, as they discuss the formation and future of Northwestern’s Black Student Union. Panelists will include:

  • 1976 Minister of Education Will Evans
  • 1993 Coordinator Asadah Kirkland
  • 2009 Coordinator Justin Clarke
  • Current Coordinator Kasey Brown

Participants will experience:

  • Panel Discussion exploring the formation of For Members Only (FMO), Northwestern’s Black Student Alliance, and The Takeover of the Bursar’s Office on May 3-4, 1968 at Northwestern University
  • The formation of FMO coincides with the United States’ civil rights movements from the assassination of Dr. King to the murder of Black Panthers’ leaders nationwide
  • Reform in the curricula and administration of predominantly white institutions like Northwestern’s and historically Black colleges/universities (HBCUs) in response to student protests and demonstrations
  • The urban church, as an indigenous organization, provided the leadership base, social interaction, and communication networks necessary for collective action
  • Garrett students demands
